Kenya is in total darkness! The country has experienced a blackout for the last four hours and anxiety is brewing up fast. The last time this happened was in December 29, 2007, when Kenya was rocked into violence by bungled election when the sitting President Mwai Kibaki allegedly stole elections and the key antagonist Raila Odinga of the Orange Democratic Party claimed to be the victor.
Kenya power and Lighting Company, the sole distributor of electricity in the country, and Kengen, a key power supplier, have not issued a statement in light of the power outtage.
Power went out in Nairobi at 1846 hours, and only enterprises with back-up generator systems in the central business district were able to carry on with their activities. The entire country went black shortly after.
These event comes in the backdrop of newspaper revelations that Attorney General Amos Wako is the senior government officer banned from visiting the United States, and also in the midst of an impending official tour of the International Criminal Court Prosecutor Loius Moreno-Ocampo to the country in order to meet the principals of the Grand Coalition Government with the view of indicting the post-election violence perpetrators.
